Update from Mark Bujnowski – Inaugural Athletics Canada High School Scholarship Winner (2017)
Thank you to the Athletics Canada Foundation (ACF), the Miller family and to all others who supported the funding for the inaugural ACF High School Scholarship.
It has been almost a year since I received the scholarship and I would like to share my journey since then. I earned two gold medals at the OFSAA Track and Field Championships in both the shot put and discus. I competed at the Athletics Ontario Provincial Championships and won gold in the discus with a throw of 57 m. I also won silver in the shot put.
I competed at the Canadian U20 Track and Field Championships winning silver medals in both events (shot put and discus). I was selected to represent Team Canada at the Panamerican U20 Championships in Peru. This was truly the best experience of my life. I made the finals in both of my events. I came seventh in discus and eighth in shot put. This completed my U20 level competition. I am now a first year senior.
I am attending the University of Guelph taking the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture program. I am on an amazing track team. I have been training hard all year, competing in meets almost every weekend since the end of November. I attended a training camp in January prior to second semester. I was able to earn the OUA Rookie of the Year award. I won OUA shot put. I was able to compete at the USports Championships in both the shot put and weight throw. I earned a bronze medal in shot put and placed fifth in weight throw, which is a new event for me this year. This year has been very intense with lots of demands both in sport and with my education. The funding helped support the many competitions I attended, helped with travel and accommodations, competition clothing and equipment. It has also supported my educational needs. I look forward to the outdoor season at London Western Track and Field Club where I begin throwing the senior weight of 2KG in discus.
